Athiya Shetty was born on 5 November 1992 to actor Suniel Shetty and director Mana Shetty in Mumbai. Suniel Shetty hails from a Tulu-speaking Bunt community while her mother comes from a Punjabi-Gujarati family. Athiya has a younger brother, Ahan Shetty. She studies at the Cathedral and John Connon School. Later on, she shifted to the American School of Bombay. She participated in the school plays along with Shraddha Kapoor and Tiger Shroff. She relocated to New York City at the age of 18, to enroll at the New York Film Academy as she was very enthusiastic to act in the films

Athiya Shetty made her acting debut in 2015 in the romantic action film named ‘Hero’, directed by Nikhil Advani. It was a remake of co-producer Shubhash Ghai’s 1983 classic of the same name. The movie Hero was produced by Salman Khan and was co-written by Advan and Umesh Bisht. After her debut in the movie, she became the brand ambassador for the Indian franchise of Maybelline New York. She was also featured in the Indian edition of high-profile magazine covers such as Cosmopolitan, Verve, Harper’s Bazaar, and much more.
After 2 years, she appeared in Anees Bazmee’s romantic comedy film, ‘Mubarakan’ in 2018. Starring opposite Anil Kapoor, Arjun Kapoor and Ileana D’Cruz. The film was a box office hit and was shot in Punjab and London. In the same year, she appeared in a song, “Tere Naal Nachna”, composed, written, and sung by Badshah, and featuring new singer Sunanda Sharma for the Remo D’souza film, Nawabzaade.
Later in 2019, Athiya was cast as Anita Awasthi, a young woman who is desperate to go abroad, in Debamitra Biswal’s comedy-drama Motichoor Chaknachoor, starring opposite Nawazuddin Siddiqui.
