Urjit Patel is a banker , consultant, and an Indian economist. He currently serving as deputy governor of the Reserve Bank of India. Urjit Patel was the expert commentator on UPA’s first 100 days on Hindi news channel , although he had no prior media exposure in India. He was the advisor of Boston Consulting Group and also president of Reliance Industries Limited in 2015. Urjit Patel was executive director of Infrastructure development finance company on 1997- 2006. On 20 August 2016, he was appointed as R.B.I governor.

EARLY LIFE
Urjit Patel was born on 28 oct, 1963 and hails from Gujarat, India. He was a banker and an economist. He did his B.A. from London school of economics and M. Phil. Degree from Oxford University in 1986. During the transition period 1991-1994, he was at IMF India desk and in 1992-1995 posted to IMF country mission in India. In 1990, he joined the international monetary fund and worked on the U.S.A , India , Bahamas and Myanmar desks at IMF till 1995. On January 11, 2013, he was appointed as deputy governor of R.B.I for three years. He took over charge of the vital monetary policy department , succeeding Subir Gokarn to the post. He was appointed as the governor of Reserve bank of India succeeding raghuram rajan on 20 August 2016.
